Statue Making Process
Statue Making process by using lost wax method:
We used the Lost wax process to produce the metal statue which has been used since the traditional generation.
Casting is done by the “lost wax” method, known in Newari as Thajya. First, there should be designs of statues which used wax to produce a masterpiece statue. After that, the wax model is encased in a paste of clay and cow dung. Then after it is again molded by paste of yellow clay and rice husk. After the mold is ready, it should be dry in the sun and then heated in the oven. After the metal hardens the clay mold is broken away revealing a metal replica of the rice husk. A solid wax model produces a solid casting; a hollow wax model with a clay core produces a hollow cast. All cast pieces require hand finishing by various processes. The technique of hammering sheet metal into relief is called embossing or repousse which helps to give good shape and size. Then after the metal statue is polished and gold painted, face painting work and oxidation coloring is done based on the requirement of the customer. After all these processes and hard work then only one statue is ready for the market.
